By James LaughlinPosted May 30, 2019 06:38:09Parents of a 12-years-old boy who died in a school bus accident in Mayport, Florida, are now under investigation after their son was found with a fatal head injury.
Investigators found the boy, who was not identified, in a pool of blood and a shallow grave in the backyard of his Mayport home in April 2018, ABC News reports.
Police arrested a man who allegedly was the driver of the bus that struck the boy and charged him with second-degree murder, Florida Department of Law Enforcement spokeswoman Ashley Kuznick said in a statement.
He is being held without bail at the Pinellas County Jail, Kuznick said.
The boy’s mother, who lives in Mayports, told investigators that her son had been in the school bus before the crash, which occurred around 3:00 p.m. on April 5, the statement said.
She said that after her son died, she called police and told them what happened.
The Florida Department in June 2018 recommended that all students in Mayps schools be supervised by a safety team, but it has since been removed from the school’s website.
Authorities have not said if the boy was under the supervision of a team.
