Mayport, Florida—MECsa schools have already been closed due to a bomb threat, and this morning the school district was again placed under a federal lockdown, according to a statement released by the Department of Education.
MECSAs schools have only reopened in a limited number of locations, and students have been required to remain in the building, according the statement.
Officials said the incident began on Thursday when a woman reportedly threatened to “kill teachers and school staff members” in a social media message and the district began a lockdown on Friday, according an EO released on Saturday.
Schools closed early Saturday after a school official received a threat and was evacuated, but the threat was quickly determined to be unfounded.
“In light of the threat, the district has determined that it is appropriate to temporarily suspend the operation of MECS schools for the remainder of the school year,” the statement read.
The school district issued a statement Saturday evening saying that all students were allowed to return to school on Friday.

In a statement on Friday evening, the Department Of Education said the school districts suspension would last for a period of time, but that all schools would remain open and that students who were required to stay in their school would be given alternative transportation.
A number of local businesses have been impacted by the lockdown, including restaurants, a grocery store, a pizza joint, a jewelry store, and a pharmacy.
Several local businesses are reportedly closed because they have been placed under the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) lockdown.
On Friday night, President Donald Trump tweeted that he was working with local law enforcement officials to investigate the incident.
