Mayport Beach, Florida (AP) A former Olympian who was shot in the head in a classroom in Mayport, Florida, has died.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office says 29-year-old Michael W. Saylor died Thursday.
He was shot Wednesday in the classroom.
Sixty-four-year old Saylor is the oldest active Olympian in U.S. history.
He won the gold medal in the 4×100-meter relay in 1988 and the 100-meter freestyle in 1984.
He also competed in the 200-meter breaststroke, and in the 400-meter hurdles.
He is survived by a daughter, Kristina Saylor.
His family said he was a father to three children.
